The development was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

According to the statement, the President also elevated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

The Presidency said the changes were part of efforts to strengthen economic management, improve coordination within the cabinet, and enhance service delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In the housing sector, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named Minister-Designate for Housing and Urban Development, pending completion of necessary administrative processes. He is expected to assume office after formal confirmation.

The statement further directed that all handover and takeover processes be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026, in line with government transition procedures.

SGF Akume explained that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes, noting that the decision was aimed at improving synergy and performance across key ministries.

He added that the President remains committed to periodic review of the cabinet to ensure effectiveness in governance and delivery of national priorities.
