Comedian alleges attempt to bribe him to alter anti-government skits

Popular Nigerian comedian, Kevin Chinedu, widely known as Kevinblak, has alleged that officials of a political party offered him dollars to tone down and alter his satirical skits critical of governance.

Chinedu made the revelation during an interview on Arise 360 on ARISE TV, where he spoke on the pressures faced by content creators who use humour to hold public officials accountable.

According to him, the offer came at a financially difficult time in his life, shortly after his wife underwent a Caesarean section.

“They said they were going to change my life… give me dollars. They mentioned that my colleagues are in the game,” he said.

The comedian, known for his fictional character “Governor Amuneke,” declined to name the political party involved, warning against speculation.

“Don’t mention names… trust me,” he added.

He said he was invited to Abuja with promises of a “life-changing” amount but ultimately rejected the offer, insisting on maintaining his independence.

“I said, no, I am who I am… I’ve never done anything because I’m being influenced by money,” Chinedu stated.

He added that members of his close circle had also faced similar offers and turned them down, stressing the importance of principles over financial inducement.
