Eight rescued Benue kidnap victims confirmed as UTME candidates

Eight victims rescued from last Wednesday’s abduction of a Benue Links bus have been confirmed as candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The victims were among passengers kidnapped on April 15, 2026, while travelling in an 18-seater bus to Otukpo to sit for their examinations.

They regained their freedom early Sunday after spending about three days in captivity.

The rescued individuals, including three females, were received at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi by the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, alongside their parents and guardians.

The victims appeared visibly exhausted following the ordeal, while documentation processes were ongoing ahead of their formal reception by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Their rescue comes amid ongoing security operations in the area, as authorities continue efforts to secure the release of any remaining victims.
