NSIB unveils new conditions of service, promises improved staff welfare
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has unveiled its newly approved Staff Conditions of Service, describing it as a major step toward enhancing staff welfare, professionalism, and institutional efficiency.
Director-General of the bureau, Alex Badeh, announced the development on Friday, noting that the document provides a comprehensive framework outlining staff rights, responsibilities, and expectations.
“It is with immense pride… that I officially unveil our newly approved Staff Conditions of Service,” Badeh said.
He explained that the document establishes clear pathways for appointments, promotions, training, and discipline, while also detailing welfare packages including leave, medical services, allowances, and rewards for outstanding performance.
According to him, the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and follows the bureau’s recent restructuring to report directly to the Presidency, a move he said has strengthened its operational independence.
“This CoS guarantees the protection of your rights while demanding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism,” he added.
Badeh disclosed that the conditions of service underwent about 17 to 18 months of review and approval, culminating in its final endorsement on March 13, 2026.
He described the development as a “landmark achievement,” noting that it includes improved allowances and benefits aimed at cushioning the impact of inflation on staff.
The NSIB boss urged employees to familiarise themselves with the provisions, saying the document would serve as a guide for conduct and performance.
On safety concerns, particularly bird strikes at airports, Badeh said the bureau would continue to engage relevant agencies to mitigate risks, noting that such incidents are often influenced by environmental factors.
The NSIB was recently moved from the Ministry of Aviation to the Presidency, a restructuring expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and its effectiveness as Nigeria’s multimodal accident investigation agency.
