Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has dismissed speculations surrounding an alleged plot to impeach him, insisting that his administration remains focused on delivering good governance to the people.

Makinde, who spoke publicly for the first time on the issue, made the remark during the inauguration of key committees tasked with advancing the state’s long-term tourism development plans and preparations for the 2026 International Tourism Summit.

Reacting to the rumours, the governor downplayed the impeachment talks, stating that his administration still has “about one year and one month” left in office.

“This administration will come to an end in about one year and one month. So what will happen next? Well, that’s if I am not impeached by then,” he said jokingly, drawing laughter from the audience.

The governor stressed that despite what he described as distractions and political undercurrents, his government remains committed to its development agenda, particularly in boosting tourism and economic growth in the state.

Makinde also highlighted the achievements recorded by his administration so far, noting that ongoing initiatives would continue to position Oyo State as a major destination for investment and tourism.

There have been recent speculations in political circles about a possible move to impeach the governor, though no formal process has been initiated.
