The Federal Government has initiated plans to roll out a National Community Food Bank Programme, with the establishment of a steering committee to coordinate its implementation across the country.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on April 12, 2026, by the Federal Ministry of Health, which confirmed that the committee held its inaugural meeting in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, charged members to focus on tangible outcomes, stressing that the initiative must deliver real impact for vulnerable Nigerians.

“This Committee must ensure that implementation is not only coordinated, but effective. This is not about meetings, but about results that improve the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The ministry noted that the programme, an initiative of Oluremi Tinubu, is designed to tackle malnutrition and strengthen food and nutrition support systems at the grassroots level across the 774 local government areas.

According to the statement, the committee comprises representatives from key government ministries, including humanitarian affairs, agriculture, women affairs, and health, as well as relevant agencies.

It added that the committee will provide oversight, ensure coordination among stakeholders, and monitor progress as the programme is implemented nationwide.

The Federal Government also revealed that the programme is scheduled for official launch in Borno State later in April.
