Bayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, has denied reports circulating online that he resigned from office to pursue his 2027 governorship ambition in Oyo State.

The denial came through his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media, Bolaji Tunji, who described the resignation letter being circulated on social media as fake and not issued by the minister’s office.

According to Tunji, “The minister has not resigned. That letter did not come from his office.”

The clarification followed widespread reports on Tuesday claiming Adelabu had submitted a resignation letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, citing plans to join the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.

When asked whether Adelabu would eventually resign to contest, his aide said the situation would become clearer at the appropriate time.

It will be recalled that Adelabu had in 2025 openly declared interest in contesting the Oyo governorship election under the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Earlier in March, Bola Tinubu directed political appointees with 2027 electoral ambitions to resign on or before March 31.

Adelabu previously contested the Oyo governorship election in 2019 under APC but lost to Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party. He also contested again in 2023 after moving briefly to the Accord Party, but suffered another defeat.

He later returned to APC and was appointed Minister of Power by President Tinubu.
