United Nigeria Airlines has announced disruptions to its flight operations following a bird strike involving one of its Airbus A320 aircraft.

The incident occurred on Sunday during Flight UN0509 from Asaba International Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, which was scheduled to depart at 12:00 p.m.

In a statement, the airline said the bird strike affected one of the aircraft’s engines, prompting immediate safety measures.

“Due to a bird strike on one of the engines of its operating Airbus A320 aircraft during Flight UN0509, some flights across our network will not operate as scheduled,” the airline stated.

It added that the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service for a comprehensive inspection in line with safety protocols.

“In adherence to our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the aircraft has been withdrawn from service for detailed checks before returning to operations,” the statement said.

The airline apologised to passengers for the disruption, appealing for understanding as efforts are underway to manage the situation.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to your travel plans and appeal for the patience of our valued passengers,” it added.

The development marks another in a series of bird strike incidents involving the airline in recent weeks, raising concerns about aviation safety challenges.

United Nigeria Airlines, however, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards while working to minimise disruptions and support affected passengers.
