A fire outbreak in the early hours of Saturday affected a six-room bungalow at Danialu Alapata Compound in the Gaa Akabi area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident, which occurred at about 2:11 a.m., was swiftly contained by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service, preventing further damage to the building and nearby properties.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, disclosed that two of the six rooms were severely affected by the fire.

“The incident involved a bungalow comprising about six rooms, out of which two rooms were affected. Through the swift efforts of firefighters, the blaze was contained,” he said.

Preliminary investigations attributed the cause of the fire to a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected rooms.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to adopt safety measures to prevent similar incidents.

He advised the installation of surge protectors, avoidance of electrical overloading, and regular inspection of wiring by qualified professionals.

Muhammed also encouraged residents to switch off electrical appliances when not in use and promptly report fire outbreaks.

The fire service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The incident adds to a series of recent fire outbreaks in Kwara, including a March 12 fire at Owode Market in Offa that destroyed six shops, as well as separate incidents involving residential buildings and commercial outlets in Ilorin earlier in the week.
