The Action Peoples Party (APP) has filed a lawsuit against the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, over alleged discrepancies in his submitted credentials.

The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, also listed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC as defendants.

In court documents dated March 16, the APP, through its representative, Abdulateef R., asked the court to determine whether Oyebamiji’s nomination complies with Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The party is seeking an order nullifying the publication of Oyebamiji’s name as the APC candidate for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

It also prayed the court to issue a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognising or dealing with Oyebamiji as a candidate and to compel the electoral body to remove his name from the list of contestants.

Reacting, the APC in Osun dismissed the suit, describing it as baseless and politically motivated.

The party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the legal action was not unexpected and aimed at distracting from the strength of its candidate.

“We were not surprised that such a frivolous suit has been filed against our candidate’s eligibility,” Olabisi said.

He maintained that Oyebamiji is fully qualified to contest, having met all constitutional and statutory requirements.

According to him, the lawsuit reflects growing anxiety among opposition parties ahead of the election, insisting that it would not hinder the APC’s participation in the poll.
