FCT area council chairman defects from PDP to APC

The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, John Gabaya, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Ernest Agada, Gabaya said the move is aimed at boosting development in the council through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He described the decision as a strategic political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gabaya, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2019 and is completing his second term in June, is currently seeking election into the House of Representatives to represent the AMAC/Bwari constituency in 2027.

He said his decision followed consultations with stakeholders and was guided by what he described as the need to promote peace, unity, and development in the council.

The chairman also expressed appreciation to his former party members for their support over the years, noting that his defection does not signal hostility but reflects a broader commitment to the council’s progress.

He further expressed confidence that the council would deliver strong support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
