Vice-President Kashim Shettima has formally welcomed Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a “partnership in a shared mission” to strengthen democracy and accelerate national development.

The event, held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, saw Shettima assure Fintiri and his supporters that they are “not strangers” in the APC family. The vice-president emphasized that democracy thrives when leaders make choices that reinforce the system, not just follow popular mandate.

Fintiri, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in February, said joining the APC would attract more federal support for Adamawa and expedite key developmental projects. Following his defection, 22 commissioners and special advisers in the state also moved from PDP to APC to align politically with the governor.

Shettima noted that Fintiri’s entry brings “fresh ideas and experience into the party,” describing political parties as entities that must adapt and draw strength from diverse perspectives to remain relevant. He commended the governor’s achievements in infrastructure and governance, pledging a partnership that advances both Adamawa and Nigeria.

APC National Chairman Nantawe Yilwatda lauded Fintiri’s record in education, health, and infrastructure, saying: “You are too good to be in the opposition. You belong with progressives.”

Fintiri, for his part, stated that his decision aligns with the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence that the APC would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 elections.
