You cannot intimidate me’ — Sowore, SAN clash in court
Drama unfolded at the Federal High Court of Nigeria in Abuja as activist Omoyele Sowore clashed with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) over an attempt to address journalists inside the courtroom.
A video circulating online shows the lawyer confronting Sowore, insisting that the courtroom was not an appropriate venue for a press briefing.
Sowore, however, rejected the objection, accusing the senior lawyer of intimidation.
“You’re intimidating me and insulting my intelligence because you’re introducing yourself to me as a SAN. I also have my own SANs,” he said.
He further argued that there is no law prohibiting interactions with journalists inside the courtroom.
The SAN disagreed, maintaining that such conduct was improper.
“I have practised for close to three decades and have never seen this happen,” the lawyer said, while urging journalists to move the interaction outside the courtroom.
He added that the court should remain a place for the administration of justice, not a venue for press engagements.
