APC leaders rally behind Basiru, seek his return as National Secretary

Three prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State have thrown their weight behind the renomination of Ajibola Basiru as the party’s National Secretary, describing him as a stabilising force whose continued leadership is vital ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The leaders — Taofeek Ajilesoro, former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adejare Bello, and Osun West senatorial aspirant, Ademola Adedapo — made their positions known in separate statements on Saturday.

Ajilesoro praised Basiru’s leadership capacity, noting that since his election as National Secretary at the party’s 12th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja in August 2023, he has continued to strengthen internal cohesion within the party.

According to him, Basiru’s performance has brought stability and unity to the APC, making him deserving of another term in office.

He said Basiru’s contributions to party administration and mobilisation remain evident to members across the country.

Bello, who currently chairs the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, described Basiru as a principled politician committed to the growth and progress of the APC.

He said the party had recorded notable progress under the present leadership and stressed the need for continuity.

Also speaking, Adedapo described Basiru as a unifying figure whose open-door policy has encouraged stronger grassroots participation within the party.

He added that retaining him as National Secretary would help sustain stability and strengthen the APC’s preparations for the 2027 polls.
