Osogbo monarch bans political materials, drumming at Eid prayer grounds
Jimoh Oyetunji has directed that political banners, posters and clothing bearing party insignia must not be taken to Eid-el-Fitr prayer grounds in Osogbo during this year’s celebration.
The traditional ruler also prohibited political discussions and drumming at all designated prayer venues across the town, warning that anyone who violates the directive will be arrested by security operatives.
The order was conveyed through Moshood Adeigbe after a meeting involving the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasahun, security agencies and representatives of political parties in Osun State.
According to the palace, the restriction is intended to preserve peace and prevent actions capable of creating tension during the Eid celebration.
The statement noted that all Muslim faithful attending prayers must avoid wearing caps, clothes or other items carrying political party emblems, while banners and posters are equally prohibited within and around prayer grounds.
It added that security agencies have been placed on alert to enforce full compliance across all Eid grounds in Osogbo.
He urged residents and worshippers to cooperate with authorities to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
