Explosion on Abuja–Kaduna Train Injures Passengers, Sparks Panic

Panic erupted on Monday as an explosion rocked the Abuja–Kaduna train, leaving several passengers injured and sending commuters scrambling inside the coaches.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred mid-journey when a sudden, loud bang caused the train to halt abruptly. The violent jolt threw passengers off their seats, leaving some with bleeding wounds while others sustained serious injuries from the impact.

Passengers lamented the lack of immediate communication from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) regarding the cause of the explosion or the condition of those affected. The train reportedly remained stationary for about 30 minutes before resuming its journey toward the Kubwa area of Abuja.

The Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor is one of the busiest in the country, ferrying hundreds of commuters daily between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State. As of filing this report, officials of the NRC had not issued a formal statement confirming the number of injured passengers or providing details about the explosion.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety and emergency response on the nation’s rail network, with commuters calling for urgent investigations and improved passenger security measures.
