Sokoto lawmaker Abdussamad Dasuki dumps PDP for ADC

The lawmaker representing Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Dasuki conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated March 15, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Dogon Daji/Salah Ward in Tambuwal Local Government Area of the state.

In the letter, the federal lawmaker attributed his defection to the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, which he said had weakened the party’s ability to function as a credible opposition.

According to him, the persistent internal disputes within the party have undermined its capacity to provide the organised opposition necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.

“The persistent internal wrangling has weakened the party’s capacity to offer the credible and organised opposition required to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system,” he said.

Dasuki noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with his political associates, constituents and other stakeholders who share his concerns about the current state of the party.

After leaving the PDP, he announced that he had joined the African Democratic Congress, saying the move would enable him to collaborate with others committed to addressing the country’s socio-economic and political challenges.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation to PDP members for their support during his time in the party and reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency.

He also urged his supporters to remain steadfast as he begins a new political journey aimed at contributing to the rebuilding of the country and strengthening democracy.
