Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed violent attacks in some communities.

The directive takes immediate effect, according to a statement issued on Monday in Yola by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou.

The curfew comes amid the ongoing conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities, which has reportedly led to fresh violence and the loss of lives.

Wonosikou said the governor described the disturbances as unacceptable and directed security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew.

According to him, any individual or group found violating the directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The governor added that the curfew would remain in force until further notice.

Fintiri also instructed security agencies to maintain law and order in the affected area while enforcing the restriction.

He urged residents to comply fully with the curfew and provide useful information to security agencies to help restore peace.

“Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order,” the governor said.

The latest restriction marks the fourth time in less than six months that the state government has imposed a curfew in Lamurde LGA due to the ongoing communal conflict.
