Peter Obi Slams Politicians Over Insecurity Amid 2027 Election Politics
Former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has condemned the persistent attacks by terrorists in Nigeria, accusing political leaders of prioritising their 2027 election ambitions over the safety of citizens.
Obi’s comments came on Friday via his X handle, following reports of a recent attack on Ngoshe community in Borno State, where insurgents reportedly targeted a military base and an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp. The attack claimed the lives of both civilians and soldiers, with several others reported missing.
The former Anambra State governor described the incident as “another painful reminder of the daily suffering Nigerians endure,” adding that he had viewed multiple videos of the attack with “deep horror.”
Obi criticised political leaders for what he described as “selfish scheming” amid the worsening security situation. He questioned how long Nigerians would continue to bear the consequences of poor leadership and mismanagement.
“While Nigerians are slaughtered daily by terrorists, it is even more troubling that our political leaders are preoccupied with strategies to manipulate the next election, leaving citizens to suffer in insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment,” he said.
The former presidential aspirant urged decisive action to protect communities, safeguard the vulnerable, and dismantle insurgent structures across the country.
