Iran: UN Demands Probe Into Deadly Attack on Girls’ School
The United Nations Human Rights Office has called for a prompt and impartial investigation into a deadly attack on a girls’ school in Iran, describing the incident as “horrific.”
Speaking at a press briefing in Geneva, UN human rights spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said those responsible for the attack must ensure a thorough probe and make the findings public.
“The responsibility is on the forces that attacked to investigate it,” she said, without naming any party.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, also urged that the circumstances surrounding the incident be fully examined through a transparent and independent process.
The call comes after Iranian state media reported that more than 160 people were killed on the first day of recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran, though the specific toll from the school attack remains unclear.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said American forces “would not deliberately target a school,” amid growing international concern over civilian casualties.
The latest development adds to mounting global pressure for accountability and restraint as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
