Kebbi Gov orders probe into Quranic school fire

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has directed an immediate

investigation into the fire outbreak that affected the Nurul Haqq Quranic and Arabic School in Birnin Kebbi.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, destroyed parts of the school, including hostels and classrooms within the premises.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, the governor ordered the constitution of a committee to determine the cause of the fire and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.

Idris was said to have noticed thick smoke while passing through the area and stopped to verify its source. Upon discovering that the fire had engulfed sections of the school, emergency responders, including officials of the Kebbi State Fire Service, were immediately contacted to contain the blaze.

More than 140 students were safely evacuated during the rescue operation, with authorities confirming that no lives were lost.

Officials attributed the intensity of the fire partly to the presence of gas cylinders in some of the students’ rooms. Firefighters battled the inferno for several hours before bringing it under control.

The affected students have since been relocated to the school’s main branch, while investigations into the incident are set to commence immediately.
