Activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has accused the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of creating numerous adversaries for President Bola Tinubu during his tenure.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Egbetokun’s removal, Adeyanju described the development as a case of “karma catching up” and urged public office holders to exercise caution in their dealings with citizens.
According to him, “Egbetokun inherited many enemies for his principal, President Tinubu. Those in public office must understand that power is transient. Karma has come for Malami, El-Rufai, and Egbetokun, and it will catch up with others who eventually leave government. Many, like Egbetokun, used their offices to victimize citizens.”
The former IGP was replaced on Wednesday when President Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu as acting Inspector-General of Police. Egbetokun’s tenure had been marked by resistance from civil society groups and activists, who accused him of irregularly occupying the office.
Adeyanju’s comments underscore the growing public scrutiny of government officials and the expectations for accountability in public service.
