President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written the Senate, requesting confirmation of two key appointments — a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission and a Chairman for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

In a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President nominated retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq as National Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the letter, the nomination was made in line with the provisions of Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The President urged lawmakers to give the request expeditious consideration and approval.

Following the presentation, the Senate President referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on INEC for legislative screening and further input, with a directive to report back within one week.

In a separate correspondence, President Tinubu also sought Senate confirmation for Ambassador Ismail Yusuf as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

The President stated that the nomination complies with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026, and similarly appealed to the Senate to act promptly on the request.

The Senate subsequently mandated its Committee on Rules and Business to handle the NAHCON nomination and present its report to plenary within one week.
