Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Monday declared that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, would never associate with individuals or groups accused of targeting Christians, expressing confidence that renewed peace and stability would return to the state following the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio gave the assurance in Jos during a reception organised to formally welcome Muftwang into the ruling party, describing the development as a turning point for Plateau’s political and security landscape.

He maintained that Muftwang’s alignment with the APC signals a commitment to unity and religious harmony, stressing that the governor would not be part of any agenda that undermines Christian communities.

“One thing I know is that Senator Lalong and the National Chairman, especially Pastor Caleb Muftwang, will never join any team that targets Christians,” Akpabio said. “We pray that the souls of all those who lost their lives to insecurity rest in peace.”

The Senate President expressed optimism that the new political movement in the state would accelerate the return of displaced residents to their ancestral homes. He disclosed that the National Assembly would support the process through adequate budgetary provisions.

“With this development, unity has returned to Plateau. I believe Internally Displaced Persons will soon return to their homes. The National Assembly will appropriate the necessary funds to ensure displaced persons leave the camps and resettle in their communities,” he stated.

Akpabio further assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to protecting citizens irrespective of religious affiliation.

According to him, the Federal Government would intensify efforts to guarantee the safety of both Christians and Muslims across the country while creating conditions that would enable displaced farmers to return to their farmlands.

“This administration will protect all religions and all citizens. We will ensure no one is left behind. Necessary funding will be provided to help close IDP camps and support the return of our people to their farms for improved food production before the end of 2026 and beyond,” he added.
