Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, saying he does not rank among Nigeria’s great political figures and should not be placed in the same category as some of the country’s most respected past leaders.

Dalung made the remark while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, where he assessed the president’s political standing and legacy.

According to him, true political greatness is measured by enduring legacies, people-centred governance and measurable service to the nation, not political influence or reputation alone.

He argued that comparisons between Tinubu and late nationalist leaders such as Sir Ahmadu Bello and Chief Obafemi Awolowo are misplaced, insisting that such icons earned their status through visible impact and sacrifice for the people.

“Tinubu is a dwarf in Nigerian political history and should not be compared with great leaders because great political leaders make legacies. They serve the people. They work for the people,” Dalung said.

He further challenged those projecting Tinubu as a great political strategist to demonstrate how such credentials have translated into governance outcomes, stressing that performance should be the ultimate yardstick.

Dalung’s comments add to the growing wave of political criticism and counter-criticism surrounding the Tinubu administration, as debates continue over leadership performance and national direction.
