APC Congress: Delta North Coalition Sets Up Screening Committee for State Chairmanship Aspirants

The Delta North All Progressives Congress (APC) Coalition for Equity has constituted a seven-member screening committee to oversee the selection of aspirants for the party’s state chairmanship position ahead of the forthcoming congress.

The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting of the coalition, convened to deliberate on the need for transparency, fairness and credibility in the emergence of the party’s state leadership.

Chairman of the coalition, Barr. Alex Ikpeazu, announced his decision to step aside from his position following his declaration of interest to contest for the APC State Chairman seat for Delta North, specifically from Ika Federal Constituency.

Members of the coalition said the move was taken to uphold fairness and avoid conflict of interest, noting that several aspirants and stakeholders are involved in the process.

Following his decision, the coalition unanimously appointed Iyke Mordi as Acting Chairman to coordinate its activities pending the conclusion of the congresses.

Secretary-General of the Delta North APC Coalition for Equity, Hon. Kemmer Emina, said Ikpeazu’s action was necessary to guarantee a level playing field for all aspirants from the zone.

He commended the former chairman for what he described as maturity and commitment to democratic ideals.

Emina explained that the newly constituted screening committee comprises one nominee from each aspirant and is mandated to assess all interested contenders and recommend a credible and widely acceptable candidate to Delta North APC stakeholders.

He reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to equity, unity and inclusive participation within the party, stressing that Delta North must continue to play a strategic role in the leadership and growth of the APC in the state.

The coalition also urged party members, particularly long-standing APC faithful, to remain united and peaceful as the congress draws near.
