Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has declared that the 2027 general election will be a decisive contest between Nigerians and what he described as forces of oppression, stressing that citizens are becoming more politically conscious and determined to shape their future through the ballot.

Oyegun made the assertion on Friday while addressing political stakeholders at a public forum, where he spoke on the state of the nation, governance, and the direction of democratic participation ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to him, the mood across the country suggests growing public resistance against hardship, poor governance, and political exclusion, noting that voters are increasingly aware of their power and responsibility in choosing leaders.

He said the coming election would go beyond party lines and personalities, adding that it would reflect the people’s collective resolve to demand accountability and responsive leadership.

Oyegun urged political actors to focus on issues affecting citizens, including economic stability, security, and social welfare, rather than divisive rhetoric. He also called on electoral authorities to strengthen transparency and public trust in the voting process.

He further appealed to Nigerians, especially young voters, to remain engaged in the democratic process and avoid political violence, emphasizing that sustainable change can only be achieved through peaceful and credible elections.
