Court Ruling Backs Osun PDP, Justifies Adeleke’s Accord Re-election Move

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which nullified the party’s controversial National Convention held in November 2025, has vindicated its earlier decision to support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid on the platform of the Accord Party.

In a statement issued on Friday by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the PDP said the court ruling confirmed that the convention conducted in Ibadan on November 15, 2025, was invalid and of no legal consequence.

The Federal High Court, in its ruling, restrained Alhaji Taminu Turaki and others from parading themselves as National Officers of the PDP, while affirming that the Caretaker Committee led by Ambassador Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised National Working Committee of the party pending the conduct of a valid national convention.

Reacting, the Osun PDP described the judgment as a clear validation of its earlier stance to back Governor Adeleke’s decision to seek re-election on the Accord platform, citing concerns over internal party instability and the risk of electoral confusion.

According to the party, the decision, taken under the leadership of the State Working Committee, was aimed at safeguarding the popular mandate of the governor and ensuring continuity of governance in the state.

“The choice was made in the overriding interest of the people of Osun State, democracy, and the sustainability of ongoing developmental programmes,” the statement said, adding that recent events had shown the move was neither arbitrary nor politically selfish.

The party further accused unnamed critics of engaging in actions capable of undermining governance and political stability in the state, urging residents to remain focused on what it described as the progressive and people-oriented leadership of Governor Adeleke.

While calling on all factions involved in the PDP’s national leadership dispute to pursue an urgent and amicable resolution, the Osun PDP reassured the public of its commitment to decisions guided by collective interest rather than internal rivalry.

The statement concluded with a call on the people of the state to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Adeleke’s administration in the interest of peace, stability, and development.
