Kwankwaso Set to Challenge Yusuf’s Second Term, Ayodele Warns Kano Governor

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has been warned to brace for political resistance from former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as he pursues a second term in office.
Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, said Kwankwaso would deploy every available means — political, financial, legal, and even spiritual — to thwart Yusuf’s reelection ambitions.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Oluwatosin Oshi, Ayodele said the defection of Governor Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has triggered a fallout with his erstwhile political godfather, Kwankwaso, and could spark instability in the state.
“Governor Abba Yusuf’s second term is under serious threat in Kano. His move to the APC will cause political turbulence that must be carefully managed,” Ayodele said.
The cleric added that a political crisis is imminent and urged both the state and federal governments to monitor developments closely.
“There will be serious political tension in Kano. The federal government must be vigilant, as matters could escalate if not properly handled,” he warned.
On the broader implications of political realignments, Ayodele also cautioned President Bola Tinubu against placing blind trust in all defectors to the APC. “Not everyone joining the APC has the president’s interest at heart; some are motivated purely by personal ambitions and could undermine his re-election bid,” he stated.
Ayodele’s pronouncement comes amid growing political realignments in Kano, following Yusuf’s defection to the APC and rising tension with Kwankwaso, whose influence in the state remains formidable.
