Akande at 87: Beacon of Progressive Ideals, Says APC Chair Yilwatda

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has hailed former party chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, as an enduring symbol of principled leadership and progressive politics as the elder statesman marked his 87th birthday.
In a congratulatory message released on Friday, Yilwatda described Akande as a “priceless asset” whose lifelong commitment to integrity and democratic values laid the foundation for the growth and stability of the ruling party.
He said: “At 87, Baba Bisi Akande represents the very best of progressive politics in Nigeria. His life is a testament to courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication to the ideals of justice, federalism, internal democracy and good governance.”
The APC chairman noted that Akande remains a bridge between generations, stressing that his wisdom, calm disposition and moral authority continue to guide the party, particularly in periods of transition and challenge.
According to him, “Baba Akande has been more than a party leader; he has been a father, a teacher and a moral compass to the APC. From the formative years of the progressive struggle to the consolidation of our party, his selfless service and principled counsel have helped shape the soul and direction of the APC.”
Yilwatda added that the former Osun State governor’s influence goes beyond partisan lines, describing his legacy of discipline, sincerity and service as a source of inspiration to leaders and citizens nationwide.
On behalf of the APC National Working Committee and party faithful across the country, the chairman prayed for Akande’s continued good health and strength.
“We thank God for the gift of Baba Akande at 87. Nigeria is better for his contributions and the APC is stronger because of his enduring legacy. We celebrate a life well lived and pray that his wisdom continues to bless our party and our nation,” he said.
