Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has assured that he will fulfil the $500,000 pledge made to the Super Eagles despite their painful semi-final exit to Morocco at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria lost 4–2 on penalties after a pulsating encounter ended in a draw, with Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi missing their spot kicks to hand Morocco the ticket to the final.

Rabiu had earlier promised the team $500,000 for reaching the semi-final, an additional $50,000 for every goal scored, and $1 million plus $100,000 per goal should the Eagles win the final.

In a Facebook post moments after the match, the businessman and philanthropist confirmed that the initial pledge would still be redeemed, praising the players for their resilience.

“To our brave Super Eagles, you fought with your hearts and showed true courage and determination. Though it wasn’t meant to be, you have made every Nigerian proud,” Rabiu wrote.

He added that the reward was in recognition of the team’s commitment and the joy they brought to the nation.

“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey, I am still going ahead to fulfil the pledge of $500,000. Keep your heads high – Nigeria believes in your future victories.”

The Super Eagles will face Egypt in the third-place playoff on Saturday.

Rabiu, one of Africa’s leading industrialists, is listed by Forbes among Nigeria’s richest individuals with an estimated net worth of $7.6 billion as of 2025.
