Iroegbu: How Wike Became Too Powerful for His Own Good

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of the Obidient Movement, Mr. Dickson Iroegbu, has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, now sees himself as more powerful than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Iroegbu made the claim on Friday while speaking on Prime Time, a current affairs programme aired on Arise Television.

According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), through the support of President Tinubu’s administration, provided Wike with the political leverage he has allegedly used to weaken and destabilise the PDP.

He argued that Wike was strategically positioned to undermine the opposition party and that his growing influence has emboldened him to act without restraint.

“The reality is that the APC, by enabling Wike through the President, handed him the tools with which he has almost succeeded in destroying the PDP,” Iroegbu said.

“Having gone this far, he now appears to believe that he is above all authority, including that of the President.”

Iroegbu further cited meetings between Wike and his supporters in Rivers State, where the minister reportedly claimed that no individual had the power to determine political outcomes in the state.

He described Wike as a “larger-than-life” political figure whose influence, he said, was created and sustained by the current administration.

Iroegbu added that the ongoing political tension involving Wike could ultimately awaken Nigerians to reclaim democratic control of the country.
