PDP accuses APC, police of collusion over Osun council crisis

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian Police of colluding against the people of the state over the lingering local government crisis.
In a statement on Thursday, the PDP described the APC’s defence of the police during the resumption of members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) on Monday, January 5, as “watery, irresponsible and self-indicting.”
The party insisted that the continued occupation of local government councils by APC-backed officials was illegal and a direct affront to democracy.
The statement, signed by the Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, alleged that the APC was deploying “brazen falsehoods” to justify what he described as the unlawful takeover of the councils by officials earlier sacked by the courts.
According to Bisi, the strenuous effort by the APC to rationalise the conduct of the police only confirmed the PDP’s long-held position that there was a collusion against the people of Osun State, with the police acting as an accomplice.
“If anyone is still in doubt, the Osun APC statement should resolve the fact that there is collusion against the people, with the police as an active accomplice,” Bisi said.
He faulted the APC’s claim that a court ordered the reinstatement of the so-called YES or NO local government officials, describing it as an invention designed to illegally regain control of the councils and misuse public funds.
“Contrary to the recycled lies by the APC, no court ordered the reinstatement of the YES or NO officials. Even the February 10, 2025 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which the APC keeps parading, did not make such an order,” he said.
Bisi challenged the APC to point to any section of the judgment that expressly ordered reinstatement.
The PDP chairman accused the APC of deliberately suppressing the judgment of the Federal High Court in suit no. FHC/OS/CS/103/2022, which sacked the APC officials and was later affirmed by the Court of Appeal in appeal no. CA/AK/226M/2024.
He noted that the attempt by the APC to relist the appeal was dismissed on June 13, 2025, adding that the Court of Appeal also affirmed the February 22, 2025 local government election conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
Bisi described as “laughable and legally absurd” the APC’s suit seeking tenure extension for the sacked officials, insisting that the February 22 council election was conducted in compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022, and a valid court order.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s resolve to continue pursuing legal options to challenge what he described as the illegal actions of the APC and its collaborators, including the police.
According to him, the party owes the people of Osun the duty of protecting their mandates and ensuring that those seeking to appropriate public resources do not succeed.
