The Diocesan Bishop, Ijesa North (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Isaac Oluyamo, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect the sanctity of the ballot and ensure that the will of the electorate prevails in the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun State governorship elections.

Ekiti and Osun are billed to elect new governors on July 20 and August 8, 2026, respectively.

Oluyamo made the call on Sunday during his sermon at the 2026 thanksgiving service of the diocese held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State.

He appealed to INEC and federal authorities to conduct elections that are free, fair and credible, stressing that democracy can only thrive when votes count.

“Let the choice of the people stand,” the cleric said, urging the electoral umpire to uphold transparency and impartiality throughout the electoral process.

He also admonished the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to eschew partisanship and carry out their duties with professionalism and the fear of God before, during and after the polls.

“With the Ekiti and Osun elections on the horizon, I appeal to INEC and security agencies to respect the sacredness of the ballot and discharge their responsibilities without bias,” he added.

Commenting on the country’s security situation, Oluyamo acknowledged efforts by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to tackle insecurity but noted that fear still pervades many highways and rural communities.

While commending steps taken so far, he said the government must move beyond what he described as “half-measures” to decisively end banditry, kidnappings and violent crimes.

“The people are weary. To restore confidence and trust, the government must move from mitigation to eradication. Our farms must be safe, our roads secure, and Nigerians must sleep without fear,” he said.

The bishop urged Nigerians to face 2026 with courage and prayers, expressing optimism that the nation would witness peace and prosperity.

“As the Lord lives, Nigeria shall move from drought into a garden of plenty,” he declared.
