Osun APC Hails Police Over Orderly NULGE Resumption

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the Nigeria Police Force for what it described as a proactive and professional approach in maintaining law and order following the resumption of duty by members of a faction of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state.

The party said the police intervention ensured a peaceful return to work by local government workers who had stayed away from duty for about eleven months in sympathy with Governor Ademola Adeleke under the leadership of Dr. Kehinde Nathaniel Ogungbangbe.

In a press statement issued on Saturday and signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC described the police conduct as a clear demonstration of professionalism and commitment to democratic values.

According to the statement, the police action aligned with their constitutional responsibility to protect lives, property and maintain public order, especially in the local government areas where APC chairmen and councillors were reinstated following the Court of Appeal judgment of February 10, 2025.

The party acknowledged the role of the police and other security agencies in sustaining peace across the councils since the reinstatement of the elected officials, noting that their vigilance has helped prevent a recurrence of violence.

The APC also expressed confidence that the killing of the reinstated Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Hon. Remi Abass, allegedly by political thugs, would be thoroughly investigated and justice served.

“We are eternally grateful to the police and sister security agencies for upholding the rule of law with diligence, which has ensured peace across all local government areas under the watch of APC reinstated chairmen and councillors,” the statement read.

While commending the council leadership for their resolve in administering the councils, the party urged them to accommodate returning workers in line with established rules and regulations guiding their employment.

The APC assured residents of Osun State that the return of council workers would enhance grassroots development and service delivery, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The party also used the opportunity to appreciate President Tinubu for his commitment to full autonomy for local government administration across the country.
