Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has said governors of the zone are united and committed to accelerating development through sustained collaboration.

Uzodimma spoke on Friday in Umuahia during a New Year courtesy visit to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, stressing that collective action remains the most effective path to growth for the region.

“We in the South-East are determined to develop the region, and the only way to achieve this is through collaboration,” Uzodimma said. “As chairman of the forum, I have a responsibility to engage my colleagues, share ideas and agree on strategies that will improve the lives of our people.”

He added that the five governors of the South-East are resolved to ensure the region plays its full role within the Nigerian federation.

Uzodimma, who is also the Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in the South-East and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, commended Governor Otti for what he described as visible strides in governance in Abia State.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Uzodimma said the visit was not politically motivated but a goodwill gesture to mark the New Year. “I came to wish him a happy New Year and to pray that God grants us strength to serve our people better,” he said.

Responding, Governor Otti thanked his guest and dismissed suggestions of political undertones, noting that differences in party affiliation should not be misconstrued as opposition.

“This was essentially a New Year visit,” Otti said. “Government is one — federal, state and local. You cannot be in opposition to a government you are part of. People often miss the point when they equate different political parties with opposition.”

Otti reaffirmed Abia State’s commitment to working with the Federal Government and other states in the zone in the interest of development.

Former Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, accompanied Uzodimma on the visit, alongside other aides. The Abia Governor’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and members of the state executive council were also present.
