Accord’s Rising Popularity Sparks Anxiety in APC – Adeleke’s Spokesperson

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly jittery and overwhelmed by the sudden electoral popularity of the Accord Party, the ruling platform of Governor Ademola Adeleke, a spokesperson to the governor has said.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, described Accord as “today and tomorrow a potent, popular, and winning platform” ahead of the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election. He accused the APC of being obsessed with “illegal and unconstitutional schemes” aimed at undermining the party’s success.
Rasheed dismissed calls by Hon. Wole Oke for the deregistration of Accord, mocking the lawmaker for what he described as “working overtime to satisfy the emperor of Iragbiji, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola.” He further accused Oke of degenerating into “illegal advocacy” following the realisation that Accord has emerged as a party of victory within a short period of its establishment.
The spokesperson questioned the APC’s fixation on removing Accord from the electoral registry or preventing Governor Adeleke from contesting. He said the party’s guber candidate appears fearful of facing voters who are determined to re-elect the incumbent.
“As the APC seeks to financially strangle Osun State by withholding local government allocations, it is equally plotting to destroy the ruling party. This is not democracy; it is a recipe for democratic chaos,” Rasheed said.
He added that rather than engage the electorate with ideas and policies, the APC has resorted to “undemocratic plots and scheming.” He challenged the APC to allow a fair contest and let the people decide.
Rasheed highlighted Governor Adeleke’s achievements since 2022, saying: “Osun has emerged the best in the South West in primary health care, improved from 33rd to 7th position in NECO and WAEC performance, seen significant reforms in sports, science, and innovation, and witnessed massive infrastructure projects including over 250 kilometres of roads constructed statewide. Over N100 billion in pension and salaries arrears have been cleared, and close to N4 billion allocated to cooperatives and artisans.”
He claimed the governor has delivered more in three years than APC did in 12, urging the APC candidate to run on his party’s record between 2010 and 2022. Rasheed also challenged Mr. Bola Oyebamiji to a policy debate to defend his tenure at the Osun Investment Agency and as Commissioner for Finance.
Rasheed concluded by urging the APC to respect democratic norms, submit to the people in a free and fair poll, and be prepared to accept the verdict of voters in the August 8, 2026 gubernatorial election.
