FG Confirms US Air Strikes on Terrorists in North-West

The Federal Government has confirmed that the United States military carried out air strikes against terrorist enclaves in parts of North-West Nigeria, following sustained security cooperation between both countries.

The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which described the operation as a product of structured intelligence sharing and strategic coordination between Nigeria and the United States.

According to the government, the air strikes were precise and targeted known hideouts of terrorists operating in the region, stressing that the action aligns with Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to rid the country of violent extremism.

“The cooperation between Nigeria and the United States has resulted in precision air strikes on terrorist targets in the North-West,” the ministry stated.

It added that the collaboration involves intelligence exchange, strategic planning and other forms of support conducted in line with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty and shared commitments to regional and global security.

The Federal Government warned that Nigeria would no longer provide safe haven for terrorists or violent extremists in any part of the country, noting that terrorism remains an affront to national values and unity.

Reaffirming its commitment to civilian protection, the government said all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the need to safeguard innocent lives and uphold the dignity and rights of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form, whether against Christians, Muslims or other communities, is unacceptable and constitutes a threat to both national and international peace and security,” the statement said.

The ministry further disclosed that Nigeria would continue to work closely with international partners through established diplomatic and security channels to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their funding and logistics, curb cross-border threats and strengthen local security and intelligence institutions.

Meanwhile, United States President Donald Trump had earlier announced that American forces carried out what he described as “deadly and successful” air strikes on terrorist targets in North-West Nigeria.

The US Department of Defense also confirmed the operation, stating that the terrorists had ignored repeated warnings to stop attacks on civilians, particularly Christian communities, and the displacement of innocent residents.

The department warned that further strikes could follow if terrorist activities persist.
