Christmas: Salaam urges unity, people-centred leadership for better Osun

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Osun State and former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, PhD, has called on residents of the state to embrace unity, renew hope and demand people-centred leadership as Christians celebrate Christmas.

In a Christmas message issued on Thursday, Rt. Hon. Salaam congratulated Christian faithful across Osun State, describing the season as a period that symbolises sacrifice, justice and selfless service to humanity.

According to him, the teachings and life of Jesus Christ underscore the kind of leadership urgently required in Osun State — one that prioritises the welfare of the people, protects the vulnerable and upholds fairness, transparency and accountability in governance.

He noted that the state is at a critical juncture where citizens must rise above religious, political and ethnic divisions to collectively insist on responsible leadership that delivers tangible development.

“Christmas should remind us of the need to reject leadership styles and policies that deepen hardship and instead support a future built on compassion, equity and opportunity for all,” Salaam said.

The former Speaker explained that his political vision for Osun State is anchored on people-centred governance, transparency in public affairs, regular payment of workers’ salaries, clearance of pension arrears, youth empowerment, quality education and economic policies that support workers, traders, farmers and small business owners.

Rt. Hon. Salaam also urged residents of the state to continue promoting peace, tolerance and civic responsibility, stressing that sustainable development can only flourish in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.

“As we celebrate the birth of Christ, we must renew our commitment to leadership that serves rather than exploits, listens rather than ignores, and unites rather than divides. Osun deserves better, and together we can build a state that works for everyone,” he added.

He reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful, accountable and inclusive leadership, assuring the people that the ADC remains a credible alternative prepared to offer a new direction for Osun State.

Salaam concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyous Christmas celebration, while praying for continued stability, progress and prosperity in Osun State and Nigeria at large.
