Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has faulted Nigeria’s colonial master, Britain, for leaving behind tribalism and religious bigotry, which he said continue to shape the nation’s challenges.

George made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, monitored by Patriotic Insights News.

He described the lingering divisions as a legacy of colonial rule and called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government to address growing public anger and hunger.

“When the British left Nigeria, they left two evils: tribalism and religious bigotry. Did anyone ask God where they wanted to be born — as a Yoruba, Hausa, or Fulani man?” George asked.

He lamented that the divisions continue to dominate national discourse rather than focusing on improving citizens’ welfare.

“I appeal to the APC government to take urgent steps to engage Nigerians meaningfully, especially as we head into an election year. Left unchecked, the combination of hunger, anger, and political tension is a potential time bomb,” he warned.

George’s comments come amid growing public debates on insecurity, economic hardship, and political tensions across the country.
