Senate Postpones Screening of Gen. Musa for Defence Ministry

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday postponed the screening of retired General Christopher Musa, who has been nominated for the position of Minister of Defence.

The screening, which was scheduled to take place in a closed session, could not proceed because Basher Lado, the President’s Adviser on Senate Matters and the official designated to present the nominee, was unavailable.

President Bola Tinubu had sent a letter requesting the Senate to screen and confirm General Musa for the defence portfolio. The letter was read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.

General Musa, who was removed as Chief of Defence Staff in October without explanation, was named Minister of Defence by President Tinubu on Monday. He is set to replace Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, who resigned over the weekend.

Other top military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and Chief of Naval Staff, were also relieved of their duties alongside Musa.

The Senate is expected to reschedule the screening once the necessary representatives are present.
