The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has distanced himself from a circulating social media report alleging he claimed security operations in Zamfara State “cannot succeed without his involvement.”

In a statement on Thursday, the former Zamfara governor faulted the publication, describing it as a deliberate falsehood capable of inciting needless tension.

Matawalle, who admitted expressing concerns in the past over the state’s security challenges, insisted he never granted any interview suggesting that current military actions in Zamfara hinge on his personal influence.

He said his previous remarks were focused on strengthening collaboration among federal authorities, state governments and security agencies to ensure sustained progress in the fight against banditry.

According to him, effective stakeholder cooperation remains central to restoring peace in the state and other troubled regions.

He warned against irresponsible communication on security matters, stressing that misleading commentary or fabricated reports could jeopardise ongoing operations and mislead the public.

Matawalle urged media organisations to uphold accuracy, balance and verification in their reportage, particularly on issues relating to national security.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the Tinubu administration, the minister said he remains committed to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to stabilise Zamfara and strengthen security nationwide.
