Wike Warns Appeal Court Project May Miss December Deadline

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has raised concerns over the slow pace of work on the Judges’ Quarters and Court of Appeal complex in Daki Biyu, Jabi, Abuja, saying the project may not meet the revised December completion target.

Wike spoke on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the site, noting that while some sections had made progress, the overall pace remained unsatisfactory.

“Initially, the contractors agreed to complete this project by September, but they requested an extension to December due to setbacks. From what I have seen today, I do not believe the project will be ready by December; it may even spill into January,” Wike said.

The FCT Minister emphasised the importance of the project to Nigeria’s justice system, adding that the Tinubu administration is committed to improving judicial welfare and infrastructure.

“You cannot talk about confidence in the judiciary without talking about investment in infrastructure and judicial welfare. These are the things that give judicial officers the confidence to discharge their duties,” he said.

Wike further stated that providing a conducive environment for judges is vital to maintaining public trust in the judiciary.

The inspection tour is part of the FCT Administration’s intensified efforts to monitor major projects and ensure timely delivery across the territory.
