Ajagungbade, a supporter of the Accord Party in Osun State, was reportedly shot dead on September 13, 2026, during a violent clash at Mayfair Motor Park, Ile-Ife.
His remains were reportedly buried at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo the following day, in accordance with traditional rites.
Addressing journalists at the police command headquarters in Osogbo on Monday, October 19, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, said operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, working with the Osun Amotekun Corps, arrested the suspects following sustained investigations.
The suspects were identified as Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf Oyinlola, Ayeni Adegbola Olalekan, Hammed Olalekan Dauda, popularly known as Jagaban, and Waliu Adejare, also known as Jay Jay.
Zungura alleged that the suspects were mobilised by Alowonle and Ojo, who are currently at large.
According to the police commissioner, investigations led to the arrest of Dauda, who was allegedly found in possession of a locally modified firearm.
He reportedly told investigators that Alowonle gave him the weapon.
The police commissioner said the investigation began after he directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation.
He said the combined efforts of homicide detectives and the Amotekun Corps led to the arrest of four suspects, while further investigations resulted in the apprehension of Dauda and Adejare.
Adejare, described by the police as Alowonle’s personal assistant, was arrested over his alleged connection with the incident.
Zungura said the command was intensifying efforts to apprehend Alowonle, Ojo and other suspects allegedly involved in the killing.
The police commissioner assured that investigations would continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the respective roles of those implicated.
Meanwhile, the command also paraded eight other suspects over alleged armed robbery, burglary and murder.
One of them, Oniyefa Olayemi, was reportedly arrested in connection with the killing of four persons during a violent clash between rival groups at Alapa village, along Toro Road, Ile-Ife.
The police said investigations into the separate cases were ongoing.
