The rally, held on Saturday, was convened by the PDP Chairman in Ilorin West, Mallam Abdulkadir Issa, and his executive committee as part of the party’s voter sensitisation, grassroots mobilisation and awareness campaign.
The event also served as an opportunity for the party to appreciate residents for their continued support.
The procession began at Omoda Roundabout and passed through Odeadana, Alore, Oloje, Itamerin, Pakata, Idigba, Gaa Aremu and Adeta before moving through Agbo-Oba, Surulere, Adabata and Agaka.
It ended at Oja Oba, near the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, after covering several communities across the local government area.
Residents joined the procession along the route, while participants maintained the rally’s momentum until its conclusion.
The exercise attracted PDP members from the 12 political wards in Ilorin West, as well as community leaders, marketers, transporters, youths, women and other residents.
The party used the rally to canvass support for its candidates, including its governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu; Kwara Central senatorial candidate, Senator Saliu Mustapha; and House of Representatives candidate for Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency, Prof. Abdulfatai Aremu.
The party also mobilised support for its candidates for the two Ilorin West State House of Assembly constituencies, Abdulhammed Tunji and Mallam Alfanla.
Speaking at the event, Tunji thanked party members and residents for the turnout, promising that a PDP-led government would bring fresh ideas and purposeful leadership aimed at improving living standards.
The rally convener, Issa, commended members across the 12 political wards for their commitment and mobilisation efforts.
He also praised residents for their reception of the procession, saying the response in communities such as Pakata, Idigba and Adeta reflected what he described as growing support for the party.
Issa noted that the rally passed through communities of political significance, which he said demonstrated the PDP’s expanding grassroots presence.
Also speaking, the PDP Kwara Central Senatorial District Chairman, Alhaji Isiaka Babatunde Owolabi, described the party as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
Owolabi attributed the PDP’s growing support to what he described as public dissatisfaction with the APC government’s performance in the state.
He alleged that the administration had lost focus and become disconnected from the needs of ordinary citizens, describing it as divisive.
He promised that a PDP government would work to restore Kwara’s reputation as a peaceful and secure state while prioritising inclusive governance and development.
Owolabi also commended the leadership of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki for the selection of the party’s candidates, describing them as individuals with integrity, experience and records of service.
The PDP House of Assembly candidate for Ilorin Central, Mallam Alfanla, urged residents to support all the party’s candidates at both state and National Assembly levels.
