Jesus spoke to journalists on Wednesday morning as he left his home for the Portuguese Football Federation headquarters, confirming that he had read Ronaldo’s lengthy statement detailing his side of the disagreement.
“I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I’m going to the Federation headquarters to work, to think about the Portuguese national team. I have nothing more to say,” Jesus said, according to a post by Fabrizio Romano on X.
Ronaldo, in a statement released on Tuesday, gave his account of the events that led to his departure from the Portugal national team camp during the recent international window.
The 41-year-old accused Jesus of breaking his word on two occasions, first by failing to substitute him into the match against Norway after he had warmed up, and later by not delivering agreed talking points during a subsequent press conference.
Jesus had previously maintained that there was no lasting rift between them and that Ronaldo remained eligible for future selection.
The coach also said late Tuesday that he had not initially read Ronaldo’s statement, explaining that he was watching Portugal’s Under-21 team at the time.
