Toyin Abraham rejects membership of Lagos APC campaign council

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has rejected her inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress, APC, Campaign Council, saying she is staying out of politics.

 

Abraham was listed as a member of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate of the campaign council unveiled by the Lagos APC on Thursday ahead of the 2027 elections.

 

She was listed alongside actors including Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun and Bukky Wright, as well as Fuji musicians such as Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.

 

However, reacting to the list in an Instagram Story, Abraham said she had not joined the campaign council and asked the public to disregard her reported inclusion.

 

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.

 

The development comes three years after Abraham publicly supported President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, a position that attracted significant criticism and online attacks.

 

The actress subsequently faced several controversies linked to her political stance, including social media campaigns calling for streaming platforms and brands associated with her to sever ties with her.

 

In July 2024, Abraham also reported an X user to cybercrime authorities over allegations she described as defamatory. The incident generated further criticism and online debate.

 

The Lagos APC campaign council document continues to list Abraham among the 33 members of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.

 

Toke Benson-Awoyinka is listed as Director of the directorate, with Jide Kosoko as Co-Director and Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director.

 

Abraham’s latest statement, however, makes clear that she does not consider herself a member of the campaign council.
