APC chieftain urges Wike to explain Rainbow Coalition to governors

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to meet with APC governors and explain his proposed Rainbow Coalition aimed at mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

 

Igbokwe made the call while commenting on the disagreement between Wike and some APC governors over the proposed cross-party political arrangement.

 

Wike had described the governors as “politically lazy” after they rejected his coalition initiative. The Chairman of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, had maintained that the governors would not support any arrangement that could undermine the APC or Tinubu’s re-election bid.

 

Reacting to the development, Igbokwe said Wike remained an important political stakeholder whose influence should not be ignored.

 

“Wike is a critical stakeholder? You can ignore him to your own peril. He has a command. He has the followers,” Igbokwe said.

 

However, he questioned the timing and approach of the Rainbow Coalition, arguing that Wike should consult the APC governors and clearly explain his intentions.

 

“Coming at this time, to put this (Rainbow Coalition) on the table, it’s not… he has to listen to majority, sit down with the governors and explain,” he said.

 

Igbokwe urged the parties to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than public exchanges.

 

“No man is an Island. Explain to your colleagues what you are trying to do,” he added.
