APC Governors Reject Parallel Structures, Back Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have warned against the creation of parallel political structures that could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

 

The position, announced by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, followed a closed-door meeting of APC governors at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Monday night.

 

The warning comes amid growing political tension over the Rainbow Coalition being championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

 

The governors said they would not support any political alliance or arrangement capable of weakening the APC, dividing loyalty within the party or undermining its candidates.

 

Uzodimma said the forum’s campaign efforts would be focused exclusively on APC candidates at all levels.

 

“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.

 

“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.

 

“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party,” Uzodimma said.

 

The governors also pledged to take charge of President Tinubu’s re-election campaign across their respective states.

 

The development is expected to fuel further debate within the APC, particularly over Wike’s continued involvement in the Rainbow Coalition.

 

Wike, who remains a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has maintained that the coalition is primarily aimed at securing Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

 

However, the APC governors’ position signals their determination to maintain the party’s structure and ensure that political support for the President operates through the APC rather than competing platforms or alliances.
