Oyo Police Direct Kwara Officers to Leave Ibadan Over Arrest Attempt

The Oyo State Police Command has directed policemen from Kwara State who attempted to arrest a suspect in Ibadan to return to their base.

The command also advised the complainant in the case to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, where the alleged offence was committed, in line with due process and territorial jurisdiction.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, gave the directive in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.

The directive followed an attempt by some Kwara State police officers to arrest a suspect identified as Tani Olohun in Ibadan, which was reportedly resisted.

The command said the officers had been advised to return to Kwara State, while the complainant was directed to seek legal redress through the appropriate court in Ibadan.

“The attention of the Oyo State Police Command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media concerning some officers of the Kwara State Police Command who were in Ibadan on official duty to effect the arrest of one Mr Tani Olohun.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the officers to return to their base and advise the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, being the alleged place where the offence was committed, in accordance with due process and the principles of territorial jurisdiction,” the statement said.
